Can you seal the roof in one day?

Most people think that a flat roof is a week's work with craftsmen, scaffolding and a gas burner. That's the case if the roof needs to be replaced. If it just needs to be sealed, the calculation looks completely different, and on a regular detached house roof you are usually finished the same day.

Why is it happening so fast?

The roof membrane is a 1-component liquid that is pre-mixed in the bucket. Therefore, there are three things you should not do:

  • You don't have to mix anything. Take the lid off, stir, and go.
  • You don't need a gas burner. No heat, no fire watch, no certificate.
  • You don't have to apply primer in multiple steps or hire a licensed installer.

It is applied by roller or brush in one layer, and that is the entire process. There are no joints to weld because the membrane runs out into a continuous surface by itself.

What does the day look like?

  • Clean the roof. This is the part that takes the longest, and the one you shouldn't rush through. All loose material, dirt, and moss must be removed, and the roof must be dry all the way through, not just on the surface.
  • Give joints and edges a try first. Flashings, penetrations and edges are the places where the roof will leak, so they need extra protection before you start painting the surface.
  • Roll the surface. One layer, evenly distributed. Consumption is approximately 1.5 kg per m².
  • Let it dry. The surface is dry after approximately one to two hours, depending on the weather. The membrane will fully cure over the next 24 hours.

The two things that can ruin your day

The temperature must be above 5 degrees, and this also applies at night if the membrane is still curing. And the weather must be dry throughout the drying period, not just while you are working. If rain falls on a membrane that is not yet dry, you have spent a day and a few buckets for nothing.

Therefore, look at the night temperature and the rainfall for the whole day, not just today's weather. If in doubt, wait another day. The substrate must be dry, otherwise the membrane may come off.

What it saves you

It's not just the hours. Because the membrane is laid directly on top of the existing roof, there's no need to tear anything off and no need to haul away a container. It can be laid on roofing felt, eternit, concrete, slate, zinc, roofing foil, metal and wood.

And because the work is done from the roof itself and not from the facade, there is no need to rent scaffolding for most detached houses and garages.

How much do you need?

A 20 kg bucket covers up to 13.3 m² in one layer. A roof of 100 m² corresponds to 8 buckets. Enter your m² on the product page and it will calculate the number yourself.
